I am doing a little tribute today to my Grandfather for Veteran's Day. This is an actual picture of him somewhere with some of the guys in his regiment. He is the one in the top hat.

He was around twenty we he went into the army and he trained in Louisiana and then in Camp Breckinridge, KY (pic above). He was then sent over to the European Theater. Much has been written about these young men and the service they did for our country. I don't know if we would recognize the world we live in if it had not been for these brave young men. I appreciate what he did and have told him so often. If you know a veteran who has missing or broken medals you can get them replaced. I don't have a before pic of his medals but, they were in pieces.
I have my Grandfather's replacement medals displayed in a shadowbox by his picture. You can obtain these medals from the National Personnel Records Center at this website:
http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/public/awards-and-decorations.html
The medals are replaced free to the veteran or family. This is a great way to honor my Grandfather's service for his great grandchildren to see in this display on our wall.
