Farmhouse Halloween

I decorated my dining room for Halloween.  The room has an allover farmhouse feel so that, with a subtle Halloween twist is how I decorated it.

It has a black and white color scheme with the green apple color for an accent.  I got the green apple color from these napkins.  I love the mod pattern.

The book page leaves are so versatile.  I can find a lot of uses for them as a placecard, on a stark tree branch, or on a wreath.

An old rake makes a great hanger for my wreath.

The centerpiece is just a milk glass pedestal bowl full of green apples.  Making things simple and easy this year but, I still have a fantasy table yet to come....you know how I like Halloween!

Witchy Tea Cupboard

My love of Halloween comes from the creativity and fun I have had reading children's literature.   I can still remember the first Halloween themed chapter book I read in grade school.  It was called The Resident Witch  by Marian T. Place.  It was so different than other books because all the rules of human existence were altered.  Creativity grew to new levels in each chapter.  I will approach Halloween in this manner on my blog.  I will have fun with it and think outside the box of my normal decorating and tablescapes in a childish way.  So, if a witch had a tea cupboard what would she keep in it?

I can imagine she flew by some bittersweet vine in the forest and it got stuck to her broomstick.  So she brought it home and used it to decorate her tea cupboard.

Leaves and even acorns get caught in her hair on her flights at night so she pulls them out and puts them on top of her tea cupboard too.  Oh, and bats hang out in her lampshades.

She has been hard at work in her garden tending herbs for medicinal uses.

She keeps her milk and sugar on top of her book of spells along with some harvested pumpkins and some unidentified berries.

And at last she has her tea set on the ready for when unexpected guest pop in.

And of course she has a candle ready for when the lights go out.  Which happens a lot around here.

Home Sweet Home # 37

Hello and welcome to Home Sweet Home!  I am very sorry for the technical difficulties.  We lost our modem three days ago but, all is up and running now.  We also have had a loss of internet this last week and I have not visited with all who had joined me for the Fall Open House.  I will be getting around to those post, thank you for being patient and joining me at that party!
I have gotten my pewter out again and made a Halloween pirate themed table.  I can find a lot of uses for pewter.  I really enjoy using it.

So, here I have been having a little fun.  Looks like a serious business deal was worked out over this table!  Don't you love Halloween!

Here is another table I did with my pewter last year.  This was my Sleepy Hollow table.
This video is under a minute and shows you just how fun the pewter can be and so many different ways you can use it.

Now, I would like to feature some wonderful post from Home Sweet Home from two weeks ago.

Home Sweet Home # 36 and Fall Open House Party!

Hello and welcome to Home Sweet Home and my first ever holiday party!  I like to have a lot of fun at Halloween and this year was no exception.  I wanted to use a neutral theme for this Halloween decor and it is unmistakably inspired by French Country but, something is a little creepy wouldn't you agree?

Let's just pretend that we happened upon this cottage in the French  countryside say oh.. I don't know maybe...Oct. 31st?

You look around and are impressed by the pretty things but...then you notice they have an anatomy wall hanging?   You can find out how to make that here.

You find your self asking, "Who are these people?"

We have a glove or is it a hand?   Whose we are not sure....and French tarot cards with a not so fantastic fortune are strewn out on this tray.  Find out how to make the creepy hand here
and the French tarot cards are from The Graphic's Fairy here.

You can find out how to create these fabric pumpkins here.

It isn't so disturbing as it was but it is a little creepy....I think that blackbird just moved.

I hope you have had fun coming to visit me for Halloween!  I am so excited to see what you all have been doing for your fall decor!
I will postpone featuring posts from the Home Sweet Home this week but will continue it next week.

It's All About the Kids

I did a quick switcheroo on the mantel tonight.  Halloween is all about the kids right.  So, I gave my 6 year old the prime spot in the living room to put his favorite Halloween decorations.  This is the before...

...and here is the after.  This haunted house and cemetery have been a favorite of all of the boys for a number of years.  I thought it would be fun for my son to have them out to enjoy for the next several weeks.
Thanks to all of you for stopping in to view my blog!
