Home Sweet Home #109

Hello and welcome to Home Sweet Home!  This week I styled my Spring Mantel.

I recycled another wreath in a Spring Wreath for Easter and Beyond.

And, I shared a way I survive my food allergies by eating Gluten Free Coconut Flour and Banana Pancakes.   Which are delicious, by the way.

I would like to highlight a new sponsor.  Phoenix Carpet & Flooring a family run business with 30 years experience within the industry, serving Bristol, Gloucester and Bath, England.  They have teams of fitters that are highly qualified in all aspects of floor laying which allows them to offer a diverse range of stylish and affordable floor coverings for domestic and commercial use.  Visit this sponsor if you are in that area to take care of your flooring needs.

Now, I would like to feature some of the great blogger's post that caught my eye from last week's Home Sweet Home.
Debra of Common Ground showed off her spring Mantel in Tell Me it's Almost Spring.

Luisa at Living and Learning with Luisa had a wonderful craft room makeover!

Kelly at Eclectically Vintage showed us how to grow our own Springtime Grass Centerpiece.

And Liz at Quirky Vistas had a great fun post on Competitive Thrift.

So many great post each week and so many talented people!   It is really hard to feature a few!  Thank you to everyone who joins me at Home Sweet Home!  It is wonderful to have you here!

Spring Mantel 2013

I went with the farmhouse style for the spring mantel.  I always find this mantel hard to photograph because it is so dark and it isn't near a source of natural light.

You can never go wrong with ironstone, it looks good no matter what the season.  Nothing says spring though like green and white.  Do you like my vintage Ovenex baking pans?  I need to find something to bake in them and do a photo shoot.   They have so much texture they look great in food photography.

Home Sweet Home #96

Hello and welcome to Home Sweet Home!  This week I showed off my Christmas mantel.

I showed off how I styled my dining room into a Farmhouse Christmas.

I also started to try some new things with my photography by starting a photo-a-day challenge.  My View Today starts the month long challenge and I am excited to say I have been shooting in manual later this week with some nice results!

Now, I would like to highlight some of the posts that caught my eye last week.

Kristy at Shona Skye Creations created this pumpkin pie that was altered to fit her husband's diet.  It looked delicious and healthy!

Doreen at Hymns and Verses created this wonderful hot cocoa bar.

Sylvia at Sylvia's Simple Life made some homemade gifts that would be perfect for a lot of people on my list.

Yvonne at StoneGable showed off her Holiday Granola Bars.  Such a great treat to have handy for the holidays!

Many great links every week!  It was really hard to feature a few!  Thank you to everyone who joins me at Home Sweet Home!  It is wonderful to have you here!

Christmas Mantel '12

Here is my Christmas mantel for 2012.  This shows it with the lights on and you can see the lights on the tree reflected in the print.  That may be all you see of the tree this year.  I have decorated and redecorated that tree twice and the lights keep blowing out.  I am afraid I have thrown in the towel on it.  The guys in the house haven't even noticed...and couldn't care.:)

Here with the lights off you can see what I have done better.  I took a 6 foot lighted, decorated garland, and centered it over the mantel.  Then I took each hanging part on each side and wrapped it up on the mantel with a little twist on the center of the garland.  This keeps all the decorations up high on the mantel.   I babysit through the week so, I had to come up with decorations that would be toddler proof.   Then I just took some tin snips and cut my hydrangeas into separate flowers and tucked them in the garland.  That's it!

The garland on top of then print is real from Lowes.  It was really long and has gone a long way to decorate the house.   I took a five foot section of this, cut it in half,  and arranged it  so the garland would drape properly on the frame.  I just wired it back together with pipe cleaners and placed it on the frame.
Have you been busy decking the halls?

A Classic Fall Mantel

I have got a classic look going on here for the fall mantel.  I am still trying to decorate with out spending any money.  So I shopped the house and pulled out the pewter.

Just a little bit of bittersweet and the mantel will stay right through Thanksgiving.

You could copy this idea with any dishes; for example, transferware, ironstone, or vintage dishes of any pattern.

Something simple and something free makes for easy decorating.

Magic on the Mantel

Witchy flew home and put her broom, lantern, and hat on the mantel.

The cat is always jumping up on the mantel to see what Witchy brought home.

Witchy has been working on that one spell.  She still can't get it right.

By Halloween she will have mastered the spell and all will be....

...magic.

Spring into Summer Mantel

I am changing up the mantel from Spring into summer.  This was the spring version.

Here is the new summer version.    I have added a basket of shells, a little zinc cloche, a few shabby candlesticks, and an hourglass.

I hope all the mothers are having a lovely Mother's Day!  Thanks for stopping by!

Spring Looks on the Mantel

It is time to do some new looks for spring around the house.  The easiest place to start is on  the mantel.   I pulled out some brown transferware and added a little forsythia.  You know when it is time to prune the roses?  When the forsythia blooms.  My forsythia is fake.

Here on the mantel, was a great place to put the little spring projects I have been working on.

How are you sprucing up your place for spring?

Beginning Anew

Welcome 2012!  Time again to begin anew.  Fresh changes going on around my house for the New Year.

I created these devotional candles for the mantel.  In seeking peace and tranquility for the new year, borrowing from the French, this made for a wonderful look.

The candles are really easy to create.  You just need the candles, which I bought from the grocery for $1.79 each.  I printed the holy cards from The Graphics Fairy, just browse images under religious.  Then to finish them, I tied twine and religious charms onto the front.  As the candles burn, the images should glow even more.

My rusty wire crown was from TJ Maxx.  I am seeking to borrow the calm and tranquility of the French Nordic style for this year.  I think there is a reason it is so popular, we need the peace of white.  My house is not white, but I am thinking I will adapt a lot of the looks to make for a peaceful setting in my home this year.
I was so amazed that on my Christmas post I was wished Merry Christmas from people all over the world.  This blogging adventure has been wonderful.  So, to all of you reading all over...
Have a very Happy New Year!
