Late Summer Look for the Door

 scanned image from: Autumn Cottage

I was excited to join Debbie over at Debbiedoos for another Magazine Copycat Challenge.   My mind is full steam ahead for Fall decorating.  So, I was very excited to finally see  Autumn Cottage on the magazine racks this weekend.   I really liked this door arrangement.  I have been doing really great at decorating for this blog with using only things I have on hand already.  That's what I did with this.

I just recreated the arrangement with things I had on had.  A hanging basket I got at an estate sale for $1.  Some faux hydrangeas, a pick of berries, and two picks of wheat.  For the decorative trim that was hanging down from the basket I used a fall garland I found at Hobby Lobby two years ago.

I love this garlandI have used it on the mantel and draped across the top of a picture frame.

So, there you go.  A late summer into fall look for the front door!  Brenda at Cozy Little House has a new Tuesday link party called Tweak It Tuesday and you can still link up any past or present autumn decor at Whisperwood Cottage's Talent Scouting Party for Cottages & Bungalows magazine till tonight.  Just go check on the links at the button below, so many great fall decorating ideas!!

I am changing up the mantel from Spring into summer.  This was the spring version.

Here is the new summer version.    I have added a basket of shells, a little zinc cloche, a few shabby candlesticks, and an hourglass.

I hope all the mothers are having a lovely Mother's Day!  Thanks for stopping by!

Spring Decor for Your Door

I found this great nest at a local discount store this weekend and I knew I had a thrift store basket that would work well for this project.
The basket started out natural and I spray painted it white.
I placed  floral foam blocks down in my basket.
I placed a large piece of sheet moss over the blocks.
I placed my new little nest in the center of the sheet moss.
Then I placed some ferns in the sheet moss and stuck them down into the foam blocks.  You could pin any of this down with floral picks or pins too.

I then added some baby's breath for a filler.
I took 3 yards of a white wired ribbon I had left over from another project and fan folded it to the size bow I wanted.
I then fold that in half.
Then I cut each corner off.  This is just how I make a bow.
I am sure there are other ways to do it.
I stick a floral pipe cleaner through the fold.
And then I twist it real tight.
Then I fluff my bow.

This is the finished product.  The plus to this basket is it had a flat back that hung on the door and it had a flat bottom which could sit on a table so you could get multiple uses out of it.
Just one more close up of that little nest.
I will be linking this up to Fun to Craft's Look At Me I Am so Crafty party.

Basket Dayz

I am joining Kim for Basket Dayz at her site Cheap Chic Home.  If you have made a basket for Easter or spring she would love you to join her.  I can't get enough of this bright apple green color.  I just love it.  So when I saw this little basket at the thrift store I just knew it would transform into the best Easter basket project.  This is very similar to what I did last week (you can view that here) but when you change up the colors and do different embellishments you can get a very different look. Here is how I did it.
Supplies:
Basket
3 yds. of ribbon of choice
Embellishment to basket ( Example- flower)
1 1/2-2 yds. of coordinating tulle (depending on how full you want basket)

I first looped the coordinating ribbon on the stem of the basket.

Before I started wrapping I put a good knot in it.  Then I wrapped the ribbon all along the basket stem.

Then once I got to the other side of the basket stem I put another good knot in it.
I then took a 4 inch wide strip of the tulle and folded it back and forth like so.  (I got ahead of myself and cut a notch out of the left side, just ignore that.)
Then you fold your tulle rectangle over and cut the corners off of of each side of the top of the rectangle, your cutting on the fold.

Then you unfold that rectangle again and tie it into the ribbon you left on the basket.  Here you can pull out the tulle and "fluff" it into a bow, just like you do when you make a homemade ribbon.

Now take some form of embellishment.  I picked out some flowers and I cut the stems much shorter.

Here I folded up the stem even smaller and I would wrap it with floral tape to secure and keep any sharp edges from little fingers.

Before I applied the flowers I pulled out the tulle making it look just like you would a ribbon you have made.  Then I tied in the flowers with a good knot and then I finished up with a bow in front of the flowers.
Now Your ready to stuff your basket with the rest of the tulle.  Just cut it up into small (10"x10") squares.  They don't have to be perfect.  The tulle makes a fantastic filler and it cushions the eggs.

Please go over to Kim's site and see all the basket projects going on.  I will also link this to the Spring/Easter Party at Life As Lori.

Tablescape Thursday: Pottery Barn Inspired

I am joining Susan today for Tablescape Thursday at her site Between Naps on the Porch.  I saw a table I liked on Pottery Barn's website and it was my original inspiration for this table.  The thing I loved most about it was the grapevine chargers around the plates.

Image from potterybarn.com
Pottery Barn's chargers were made out of the smaller grapevine you can find it at Trees n' Trends or most stores like that.  We don't have a Trees n' Trends as near as I would like.  So, I fashioned my chargers out of a 12 inch grapevine wreath.  Here is what I did.

I unwrapped the large piece of grapevine from the wreath that was holding it together.
I then pulled the wreath apart and used only about 2/3 of the grape vine material for my charger.  The wreath was just too full.  I then shaped the wreath which actually measures 10 inches across to a full 12 inches across and I fit the plate down into it to make it look right.

Next, I took a green floral wire and secured the wreath as compact as I could get it.  The idea was to make it as level as you can and not too tall because you are going to sit a plate in it.

This is what my finished grapevine charger looked like.  It wasn't just like the PB table's but it was  close.  The main goal was to capture the organic feel of the table.
Here is the completed place setting.  The dinner plate is by Better Homes and Gardens.  The salad plate is Shenandoah  by Noritake.  I made the napkins.  The table cloth is burlap.
Easter Bunny is going around and gathering Robin's eggs to put in his big basket.  One of my other favorite things about this table and the PB table were these little organic rabbits.  This one is made out of some natural plant fibers.  I am not really not sure what it is, but it really resembles fur.  The nest I got at Trees n' Trends.  The vase is an antique jar.

The eggs are Brach's Robin Eggs.  The table runner is a just a piece of fabric, pressed and finished with no sew fabric trim.
Tulips were on clearance at Walmart.  The Forsythia is fake from Hobby Lobby.  The little basket on the left my Grandmother and Grandfather got for me when they were in Eastern Kentucky.  It is handmade and has a grapevine handle.

My table isn't an exact copy of Pottery Barn's but you can reproduce or get the feel of their tables without spending a lot of money.   Please go to Susan's site and check out all the spring tables.  With a holiday coming the tables should all be inspiring.
