Before I am tilling the garden under, I will try to find uses for the herbs that have given full performance all summer. Some that did really well this year were the rosemary, thyme, and lavender. I thought it would be fun to create some decor with them that might enhance your kitchen through the fall and winter. The first item I will show you is the rosemary wreath.
Rosemary Wreath Lavender Bundles Thyme Broom

20 gauge wire 11-10 inch stems of 6 inch stick
floral wire Lavender 20-3 inch thyme sprigs
wire cutters Ribbon of choice hot glue
scissors raffia
6- 5 inch sprigs of rosemary
ribbon of choice
First I cut a desired length (mine was about 12 inches) of 20 gauge wire and made a wire form.
Then I took the floral wire and started to fasten the rosemary to the wire form. Just cut a length of floral wire and wrap it like a bread tie and then trim the ends and tuck them under the wreath.
As you wrap the rosemary around you will fasten the end of one sprig with the middle and beginning of another sprig.
Holding all three of those sprigs together you will fasten it at that point and the next fasten will be at the same combination of sprigs till you get to the end of the wreath.
Use your wreath to decorate your kitchen and if you need a little rosemary to season potatoes or chicken through the winter pinch some off.
I have attempted a lavender wand (great instructions here on that), but my stems were too small and I didn't get this to work. Lavender doesn't usually grow well here so I was lucky to get any blooms. I just tied mine together in a bunch and it smells wonderful and will last all winter in this dried bundle.
Here is a lavender bundle used with a candle. ( See all of the toys in the floor behind candle. This is usually why I don't post pictures of my home on a weekly basis. LOL)
This next idea was my own creation. I took an 8-inch stick from the yard and a bundle of thyme.
Trimmed the thyme to 20-3 inch pieces.
Then hot glue sprigs onto stick about two inches from the bottom.
Glue 18 to 20 sprigs onto the stick to get the desired fullness.
Tie raffia to broom of thyme to secure it and wrap it around and tie it off.
The finished broom can be hung up in kitchen or used in your decor. Could also snip thyme off of it for seasoning meals, just don't serve any hot glue.
