Lavender Sugar

scanned image from: The Herb Companion July 2012

I picked a really pretty image of something I had been wanting to try for Debbiedoos Magazine Copycat Challenge.  I loved this image, how simple right?

I right away saw that my macro lens isn't as good as the magazine photographer's lens.   But, the more I layer my photo with other objects the better results I get.  A single subject tends to go flat with my lens.

Lavender sugar is really easy to make.  You just take a cup of regular sugar and place 2 tablespoons of organic lavender buds in the jar.  Seal tight and in a few weeks you can spoon out the flavored sugar for tea or baking.  Sift out the lavender buds unless desired in baking.
Enjoy!

My Little Lovey...

... is here!!  He was born last Monday (May 21st) in the afternoon and weighed 7 lbs 8 oz.

{There is no better feeling on this Earth than the moment when you first hold your baby}

...And here he is all cleaned up and in his nightie:

His name is Luke David & we are so in love with him.

 {Here he is with his Daddy- David.  We've barely put him down all week.}

Anyway, I just wanted to share our news with you & hope you're having a great week!  I'm not sure when I'll be back in -  I'm really trying to devote all of my attention to the family right now- but when I am I've got lots to share on what we've been doing around here. :)

And a note on the exhaustion/ coping level-  I have to say that with my husband home for 1 more week, we're doing pretty well.  Life with 3 boys is DEFINITELY an adjustment but so far, so good.  Right now, we're tag-teaming & it's really manageable but I'm a little nervous about when real life & work picks up & we're not only focusing on the family & life at home.  I'm trying not to think about it right now & to just recup & relax...  On that note, I'm also sooooo excited to get to work out again.  I gained 60 (!) pounds so I'm ready to RUNNNNN... :)  (I gained 60 with each of my other pregnancies too =  FUN.  not.)

ok, I'm off.  Have missed you all!!

xoxo, Lauren

Capturing Cottage Style

I have tried to capture cottage style in my house for a long time. But; having been raised with a family of antique lovers, refinishing furniture was the method of choice not painting.  Here my dining chair sits with my first can of chalk paint and I am going to take the leap.  I am going to paint the chairs to try to get more of a cottage look in that room.
Forty minutes later, I am blown away!  This is cottage.  I like these chairs so much better than I did with that oak finish.  I'm still thinking about the seats.  I may just slipcover a little flirty seat cover.   What do you think?  Is it cottage?

Cookout Worthy Baked Beans

I can't believe Memorial Day is this weekend.  I keep thinking it is the 31st, but not this year.  This weekend is the official start to summer.  Are you firing up the grill and serving cookout food?  We usually do.  I don't usually serve my baked beans right out of the can.  As my sweet Grandma Patty would say I "doctor them up" a little.
Here is what I add:
1 heaping TBSP of brown sugar
1-2 TBSP of Sweet Baby Ray's honey BBQ sauce
1/2 of a sweet onion (Vidalia) chopped
1 potato (Russet) peeled and chopped up

I mix this all in and bake at 350 degrees for an hour.  Serve warm.  This was all added to 1 standard can of ready made baked beans.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Enjoy!
