What's In My Cabinet

Hi!  I'm joining Sandi today at Rose Chintz Cottage to talk about "What's in my Cabinet? We are sharing things that are our treasures.  I have always loved my blue and white transferware by Johnson Brothers the pattern is Coaching Scenes.  I have it here in the hutch with a few simple decorations for fall.

My other treasure would have to be the pewter collection.  It was originally started by my parents in the 70's when there was a Colonial Revival going on in decorating due to the Bicentennial of 1976.

I have added a few pieces over the years.

It always looks timeless as a full place setting or with just a few accent pieces like these candlesticks and bowl.  What's in your cabinet?  Any treasures?
Don't forget to check out my giveaway of My Memories Suite scrapbooking software!  It is great for bloggers and scrapbookers!

Spring Planning

Have you been spring planning?  I have been giving a lot of thought to this year and to the plans I need to make.  Of course you knew I would sit down and do it with a cup of tea.

A simple pear makes a nice treat with a cup of tea.

What spring plans are you making?  My tea mug is Lenox Butterfly Meadow.

Tea Towel Review

I have two beautiful linen tea towels I received from www.all-tea-towels.co.uk  for review.   The first thing I noticed is how pretty the towels are.  They each have a striking design printed on one side.

The two towels I picked out were 100% linen.  The fabric really was fantastic.  I washed the towels, at first by hand, to remove the natural starches as instructed by the care instructions.
I then washed them two more times and air dried them.  I also ironed them as per instructed in the care instructions and they ironed up really nice too.

I did a little research on the internet as to exactly what a tea towel is used for.  It is a dish towel.  It is used to dry your best dishes or any dishes.  So, I tried them out on some of my nicest things to see how they did.   I dried this plate and teacup with this tea towel and it did a wonderful job.  The fibers in this linen is extremely absorbent.  I have worked in a fabric store in the past and had some experience with linen and linen blends and this linen is of a very high quality.  The fibers of this linen even had a sheen after washing.  The towels also worked very well on Tupperware as well as stainless steel pots and pans.

So, how did they do on the finest of crystal and silver?  They did a great job with that too.  I dried my Waterford crystal goblet with this towel and not a bit of lint is left behind.

I also dried my sterling silver.  The towel took all of the moisture away, left the silver dry, and no lint or water spots.

So, in conclusion I would highly recommend these tea towels.  They were a joy to use and a great asset to equip your kitchen with.

A big thank you to www.all-tea-towels.co.uk  for the opportunity to review these tea towels.
Based in Northern Ireland, All Tea Towels has many fun and lovely designs of tea towels and will ship world wide.  Go and check them out.

Fall's Color

Fall's color is bright.  The oranges, golds, and reds pop and beg us to come outside before we are trapped by the gray cold November skies.

Orange stands out as the color of Fall.  Warmth and fire is what it reminds me of.

Have a mug of coffee and think about fall's colors.  Which are your favorite?

Loved this table in my recent issue (Sept/Oct 2011) of Victoria.  It gave me the idea to put together the above.

Bee Tea

This is a post I am re-posting from last year.  My lavender is blooming and this sweet pottery has been a favorite find of mine.  I have received many hits on this post.  The artist, Deb Mores,  that created the pottery found my post and has left a comment.  This pottery now is on my kitchen cabinets and I love to stop and admire it.  It is such a cute tea  set.  This post last posted on 8/30/10.

I am usually not very lucky at Goodwill.  I really don't bother going because I never find anything, but this week I did.  I found this tea set by Deb Mores.  The pattern is Buzz Buzz.  It was made in 1999.

The tea pot and sugar are shaped like a straw bee hive.  The are bees buzzing all about.  Lavender is blooming all around to keep the little bees happy.

A bee perched on the tea pot  lid.  There is also a bee on the sugar lid.

As luck would have it, my lavender just bloomed a second time so I picked a bunch for my tea.

I also have found a lovely little tea towel made of cotton and linen that has been hand embroidered with little bees.

I was really pleased with the find.  I got a large platter, 4 dinner plates, a pitcher, and this tea set for $12.75.  The tea mug is from my Corelle Country Cottage.  It just about matches the color of the lavender on the tea pot and accessories.
Thanks for joining me for a late summer tea...buzz.....buzz

A Mad Tea Party 2010

I am joining A Fanciful Twist for A Mad Tea Party 2010. Click on the link and go visit to see the annual tea madness. (Re-post from 2010.)
(This is such a fun party, many participants held their teas with children.  Such a perfect idea for entertaining children in the summer.  Vanessa holds this party every year, click for this years info.  It will be June 25, 2011.)
Hurry, hurry don't be late.....(White Rabbit)
"Where did that rabbit go... did you see him?" Alice said.
"Curiousier...and curiousier," said Alice.

"A little tea set for me. The March Hare and the Mad Hatter are waiting for me," stated Alice.
"Mad Hatter, whatever is that your wearing?" said Alice.
"I don't know what you mean. It is cold, so I wore my panama hat," answered The Mad Hatter.
"You have set the most lovely tea," said Alice.
"Oh, what is this?" exclaimed Alice. "It is a bottle that says, Drink Me..."
"Oh, here I go again. Things are getting fuzzy...."said Alice.
" Did you see that White Rabbit?" asked Alice. "I think he hopped this way. Now I am so small..."

Just for fun you can view my Mad Tea Party in movie form.

Limoges in the Tea Cupboard

My little tea cupboard got rearranged for Valentine's Day.  I pulled out the Limoges and  Bavarian china I have been collecting from the thrift stores for the last year.

A few white tea pots from TJ Maxx too.

I have added a few vintage postcards and the display is complete.

A vintage stand up Valentine is perfect on top.

Vintage Books and Some Tea

I have a little tea for one today.  When it is winter I get more creative with my centerpieces out of necessity.

Have any of you noticed these vintage books in the shops or catalogs.  It is an old copy of a hardbound book with the cover ripped off.  I have been seeing them frequently and I thought I would create some.  I got mine at the thrift store.  I first looked for all of the books with a blue tag; those were 50% off, and then I picked out the thickest and most yellowed page books I could find.  The best results are with the hardbound books, you get a real vintagey look from the ripped off binding.   They make great risers for your vignettes.  I made the cloche out of an old clock.  You can read about that here.

Tea pot and cup were from TJ Maxx.

TCOH Recap 2010

It is so often customary to review the passing year in some form or another.  I wasn't  going to do a review but, then I decided to do a recap and show how much the blog has been growing creatively for the people who have just recently started to drop by.

This Shabby Chic Spring Tablescape was the first post that I felt was starting to look like I had envisioned the blog looking.

It has been a wonderful year and I appreciate every one who stops by and views my blog.  I have some exciting plans for 2011.  I can't wait to see you there.
