Home Sweet Home #79

Hello and welcome to Home Sweet Home!  I showed you a few ways I create the nautical look in my home last Friday but, I forgot to show you this mermaid.  She makes quite a statement where ever I place her.

I also have created a Cottage Style Quick Clip of these nautical accessories showing you how to bring the beach home in your house.  I will be starting to make a lot of these videos all under two minutes.  They will be made to watch on hand held devices while your out and about and waiting.  They have no commercials, no pages to turn, and a soundtrack.
Here is another link for hand held devices if the box below won't load:  Nautical Looks for the Home

Now I would like to highlight some of the posts that caught my eye last week.

Suzan at Simply Vintageous made this hutch over with spectacular color choices.

Courtenay at Creek Line House had her mantel featured on Better Homes and Gardens website.  Congrats Courtenay!

Gail at Gail's Decorative Touch added a great antique sign to her mantel shelf.

Liz at Rose Vignettes  had a gorgeous Fresh-Cut Friday last week.  She host a party the first Friday of every month where you can show off any fresh floral arrangements.

Karen at Shabby Brocante showed off her thrifty finds.  This soup tureen is something I have been looking for so I was most excited for her that she found one.

There are many great links each week!  Thank you to all who join me at Home Sweet Home!

Burgeoning Chic of Pink

Image: davidaustinroses.com

If you lived in the UK you could get a David Austin rose bouquet delivered to your front door.  This is a newer shade called Kiera.  The shades of pink in this are perfection.

Or would you rather go with the "2011 Color of the Year."  Honeysuckle.

It is energizing.  I used it on a tablescape last summer.

I remember this color being preppy.

I remember this color somewhere else....oh yes, Elle.

Did the runways cause this stir in our living rooms?

I don't know, I think this color shouts tween to me.

So what does pink look like if it grows up?  Remember Meggie Cleary's "Ashes of Roses" dress from the Thorn Birds.

Or how about Natalie Portman's coat in the movie Black Swan?  Love this look... although she does look a little edgy.

Pink; for all of it's attention grabbing looks, will be a safe bet in flowers.

This looks pretty safe to me too.  Some pillows, a throw, and a coffee mug in the chic pink of the moment.  When your coffee mug breaks a new color will be in style.

Or my personal favorite pink; a little closer to Meggie's dress, makes a great pillow.  Available in my Etsy shop now.

Having a little fun with the fashion and the trends of interior design.  I will be joining Beverly for Pink Saturday at How Sweet the Sound.
Last week Beverly asked us to find one new blog and feature them on our blog this week.  I happened on Girl in Pink.

Amanda has a great blog where she shows off her found treasures for us to drool over.
Go and check her blog out and tell her I sent you.

Makeover for Your Pillow

This is a really simple makeover.  If you can sew a straight stitch on your sewing machine you can do this.   It is a really girly fun way to spruce up some personal space.

Here is the before.  I took my pillow right off of my bed to show you what it looks like.  I sleep with 400 count cotton sateen pillowcases.  Plain boring cream pillowcases.

I took another 100 % cotton white pillowcase and I added the lace.  It would be nicer to use 100% cotton lace.  What I used here were left over scraps and they were polyester.  I sewed the 3 inch lace on the seam of the pillowcases hem.  On top of that I sewed the ruffled lace in place with just a straight stitch.  Over that; to hide the top of the ruffled lace, I sewed a 1/4 inch white satin ribbon on the top and bottom.  Sewing the top and bottom will keep the ribbon from curling in the wash.  And that's it.  From boring to super girly in 30 minutes.  To be shabby chic use scraps on both of your pillows and they won't match.
Here the pillowcase is against a rustic quilt.  It looks good on any bed because it is all white.
I will join:
Susan for Metamorphosis Monday at her site Between Naps on the Porch.
Cielo for Show Off Your Cottage Monday at her site The House in the Roses.
