Sailor's Valentine

image source: Romantic Homes Feb. 2013

I always love to join Debbiedoo's Copy Cat Challenge but, I can't always find something to copy that I have the supplies for.  But, this month I had the three items in this full page photo taken from Romantic Homes February 2013 issue.

The article was on Sailor's ValentinesSuch a romantic gesture for a sailor at sea to craft a heart shaped box out of seashells for his sweetheart.  I think I could create another post on sea themed valentines.  I'll see what I can come up with.

The Year in Tea 2012

I always think I am not doing a review post, but then I realize I have one thing I do consistently each month and that is a cup of tea.  So here it goes, a review of 2012 in tea.
In January I had the rose tea.

For February there was the Valentine's Day Tea.

In March the Irish Tea.

In April, to remember the anniversary of the Titanic, I had a Titanic Inspired Tea on an old steamer trunk.

And for May, of course, I had a Mother's Day Tea.

In June I had tea on my newly painted little white chair.

In July I had an Anne of Green Gables Tea.

In August I had a fresh vine of bittersweet that looked so lovely with my blue and white.

In September I had a Fall Tea Tray.

In October I had a Victoriana Tea with some spooky accents.

In November I served Dutch Apple Cake with tea..or maybe that is coffee...

In December I had a cuppa tea with my winter scarf and a great book of Christmas stories.
So, I really did have something I could review in 2012.  May everyone have a fantastic 2013!

Hello and welcome to Home Sweet Home!  This week my focus was on collectibles.  I have been a vintage collector for years.  I showed you some of my collections in my Monday post but for today I put together a Quick Clip of some of my favorite collectibles.
If you have trouble viewing this here is a link for hand held devices: Collectibles

Jody and Stan of Rooted in Thyme painted some furniture for a beautiful outdoor space.

Tricia at The Little Cottage on the Pond had a "happy accident" painting this lovely watch cabinet.

Kristen at Sophia's Decor did a fabulous job with this faux fireplace.

The Country Farm Home did a fabulous job turning this dresser into a lovely sink base.

Collectibles

You see them all of the time, new lists of the hot collectibles.  If you have ever been by my blog it won't surprise you what my favorite collectibles are.  I am very fond of photographing them.  I have some favorites that I consider very photogenic.  My all time favorite collectible is transferware.  Pictured above is two patterns from Johnson Brothers, that I bought thriftly at a discount store.

This pattern is also by Johnson Brothers.  I went to an auction with my Dad years ago and he bought me a whole box of this for $13.  It was the very end of the auction and not too many people were still hanging around.  I love deals like that!

This is a new collection for me.  I have only had this large pitcher for a long time but, lately I have been picking up many pieces of ironstone very inexpensively at thrift stores and discount stores.

This is my husbands favorite collectible.  He likes my pewter collection.  I find pieces of this also in thrift stores, but the original collection came to me from my family.

Maps & globes are a hot item right now.  I have always considered them an asset when decorating.  I picked these up at discount stores, yard sales, and an antique store.

I have always identified with Belle from Beauty and the Beast (Disney version), with her nose stuck in a book.  I love antique books.  The ones that get my attention are from my favorite authors or poetry.

This is just a few of my favorite collectibles.  What are yours?

Home Sweet Home #79

Hello and welcome to Home Sweet Home!  I showed you a few ways I create the nautical look in my home last Friday but, I forgot to show you this mermaid.  She makes quite a statement where ever I place her.

I also have created a Cottage Style Quick Clip of these nautical accessories showing you how to bring the beach home in your house.  I will be starting to make a lot of these videos all under two minutes.  They will be made to watch on hand held devices while your out and about and waiting.  They have no commercials, no pages to turn, and a soundtrack.
Here is another link for hand held devices if the box below won't load:  Nautical Looks for the Home

Now I would like to highlight some of the posts that caught my eye last week.

Suzan at Simply Vintageous made this hutch over with spectacular color choices.

Courtenay at Creek Line House had her mantel featured on Better Homes and Gardens website.  Congrats Courtenay!

Gail at Gail's Decorative Touch added a great antique sign to her mantel shelf.

Liz at Rose Vignettes  had a gorgeous Fresh-Cut Friday last week.  She host a party the first Friday of every month where you can show off any fresh floral arrangements.

Karen at Shabby Brocante showed off her thrifty finds.  This soup tureen is something I have been looking for so I was most excited for her that she found one.

There are many great links each week!  Thank you to all who join me at Home Sweet Home!

Stone Fruit

I saw these cherries in the grocery this weekend and I grabbed them up.  The kids will eat them so fast.  I wanted to take a picture of them.  Their color is fantastic.  Every time I buy cherries they don't last 24 hours in my house.

So Sunday night before anyone saw them, I whisked them outside and snapped a few pictures.

And there you have it!  Stone fruit.  I knew they would be pretty!
The teacup is Johnson Brothers Coaching Scenes.

Home Sweet Home #72

Hello and welcome to Home Sweet Home!  I have been enjoying flowers in the yard this week.  I have been babying them a lot by watering them.  Very dry here.

Did you see this picture on my blog Monday?  I had just remodeled my dining room and received all these wonderful furniture pieces from family and we are driving by a yard sale this weekend and saw this hutch.  It was marked $100 but we went back late in the day and everything was 1/2 price and we got this for $50!  I was so excited! I have always wanted a hutch like this and it is solid maple.  So now I have a great piece to show off my transferware. I was such a happy thrifty shopper!

So, one side of the room has that hutch and then the other side of the dining room looks like this.  I am so happy with how it turned out!!  I can't wait to decorate it for fall and Christmas!

Now, I would like to highlight some of the posts that caught my eye last week at Home Sweet Home.
Cindy at Beaux R'eves showed off her beautiful new French bench.

Penny ay Penny's Vintage Home showed off her pretty shabby coastal bath decor.

Jill at Sew a Fine Seam showed off this great vintage cabinet.

Must Love Junk showed off this vintage shoe rack that is a favorite of hers.

Maggie at Little Miss Maggie showed off a French family crest that she made that is wonderful!  Info in this post as to where to get French and German grain sack stencils.

Many great links each week!  Thank you to all who join me at Home Sweet Home!   It is wonderful to have you here!
